Next generation

What would you like your future to look like?

We recently worked for a family-owned company, where the 4th generation (all in their 30’s) just acquired shares. This new generation challenged the status quo and convinced the other owners and the board that it was time to re-evaluate their purpose. The key question for them was: how can we use our business potential to create long term value while also changing the world for the better?

We enjoy working with millennials, because for them social responsibility and business growth go hand in hand, while others develop separate strategies for both topics. We usually start with the question “what does good look like?”, in this case visualizing the business and its role in society. Like Abraham Lincoln said: “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” Thinking beyond the business value of the company opened new perspectives for all involved and stimulated a renewed sense of shared pride.

Have you defined what impact you would like your business to have? Do your shareholders and board have a shared vision of your company’s desired destination?
