Koen Wagemakers, CFO BYBORRE
The merits of creative intelligence
BYBORRE is a textile innovation company that aims to drastically change the textile industry by offering a high-tech platform to design, create and produce the highest quality knits on demand. We had an inspiring interview with their CFO Koen Wagemakers, who shared his whole brain perspective on business innovation of this fast-growing scale-up.
Koen has a background in corporate finance and believes that it requires more than the stereotype rational and process-oriented attitude for a CFO to be successful. His focus is on long-term value creation, which requires a strong, accurate financial foundation. “Every phase of a venture needs a different CFO. To realize sustainable growth, I have to constantly find the right balance between ensuring solid financial systems and allowing the crucial freedom the BYBORRE community needs for creative exploration”.
This dynamic of future orientation and understanding how to get there means for the CFO role of Koen that he needs to stay flexible, keep an eye on the business flow, and sense what is happening in the organization. “Finance is not a rational act of control and ticking the boxes. More and more I’m able to contribute to the bigger purpose of venture building and apply my strategic and creative intelligence to business innovation.
