Business innovation and mental resilience
Learning from complexity research
When we think of businesses as complex ecosystems, we can learn from complexity research on how to make these systems more resilient. Roland Kupers, a professor in this field at the University of Amsterdam, describes how building resilience requires increasing the level of robustness and adaptability. For business innovation to be resilient this requires actions like putting up buffers and developing agile systems and technology. However, what can be done to create a resilient culture and help leaders deal with complexity?
The research done by Kupers and others suggests that there are various ways to increase this mental resilience. By making sure your personal purpose and values are aligned with the business ones for example, and by increasing the diversity of perspectives you apply. Having a positive attitude and developing a learning mindset also contributes to mental resilience, as does building a broad network of trusted personal and professional relationships to provide strength and guidance.
What about you? Do you actively work on developing both your business and mental resilience to be able to better deal with complexity?
