Design thinking for social impact

Do your learning programs enable both your team and society to prosper?
Atlassian is one of the companies that publicly took the 1% pledge - a corporate philanthropy model pioneered by Salesforce. It means that 1% of equity, 1% of product, 1% of profit, and 1% of employee time is pledged to charitable causes. Henriette van Eeghen, the founder of Impact Matters, helps the Atlassian team in Amsterdam to identify partners that could use their time and specific skills.
This June Atlassian decided to support SKC, a foundation that enables kids from less privileged backgrounds to thrive.
At the same time, the Atlassian team had expressed a desire to learn more about design thinking. Could thinking and acting as a designer help them in their job? We were asked to create a win-win situation by developing a learning program that would result both in tangible results for SKC and inspire the desired team development. We love this kind of and/and challenges, and designed a pressure cooker session of one day that resulted in the Atlassian team learning different attitudes, skills and tools, the SKC team going home with real solutions for their strategic challenges (plus the promise of an implementation follow up) and all of us being inspired by a wonderful day with great creative energy. It was a pleasure working together with this very enthusiastic and diverse team (both in terms of cultural and professional backgrounds)!
